8 Citizens square off for April 8 Elections

“Vote as you please, but please vote!” officials are reminding area residents less than a week away from a combined municipal/school election.Local voters will head to the polls next Tuesday, April 8, to decide who fills three Brookings City Council spots and one seat on the Brookings School District Board of Education.Up for one one-year Council position are incumbent Ryan Brunner and newcomers Joyce Hodges and Larry Mix.Competing for two three-year Council seats are incumbents Ginger Thomson and Mike Bartley and former councilor Mike McClemans.In the School Board race, Anne Werpy and Matthew Vukovich are going after one three-year seat vacated by member Amy Dunkle.Polls throughout the city and in Aurora are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters within Brookings city limits will decide on both city and school races, and rural voters in the area will cast ballots for the School Board election only.Polling locations in the area include:n Precinct 1: Voters living within city limits east of Medary Avenue and north of Sixth Street go to Tompkins Alumni Center at 905 Medary Ave.n Precinct 2: Voters living within city limits west of Medary Avenue and north of Sixth Street go to First Lutheran Church, 337 Eighth St.n Precinct 3: Voters living within city limits west of Medary Avenue, south of Sixth Street and north of Eighth Street South – and rural voters in Medary and Oslo townships in Brookings County and Fremont and Riverview townships in Moody County go to Brookings City Hall at 311 Third Ave.n Precinct 4: Voters living within city limits east of Medary Avenue, south of Sixth Street and north of the railroad tracks – and rural voters in Brookings, Eureka and Sterling townships – go to Ascension Lutheran Church at 2030 Third St.n Precinct 5: Voters living within city limits east of Medary Avenue and south of the railroad tracks go to Bethel Baptist Church at 714 17th Ave. S.n Precinct 6: Voters living within city limits west of Medary Avenue and south of Eighth Street South go to the United Church of Christ at 828 Eighth St. S.n Precinct 7: Voters in the cities of Aurora and Bushnell and Argo, Afton, Alton, Aurora and Trenton townships in Brookings County go to Aurora Little Hall.Elderly voters or voters with disabilities can contact Brookings City Clerk Shari Thornes at 697-8641 for information and special assistance in absentee voting or polling place accessibility.
